Have you ever wished God would show you the big picture of your life? Have you, like me, ever thought, “If I could just see how all the pieces fit together…?” As I was reflecting on my own frequent desire to see “the whole picture,” I had a revelation of God’s grace. If God were to show us all the pieces of the puzzle we would easily be overwhelmed by it all; so much so that we might be tempted to run in the opposite direction of God’s plan for our lives. So, why is it that looking at the whole puzzle would be daunting, but we can more easily handle seeing a few pieces at a time? The answer, of course, is grace.
One of the amazing things about God’s grace is its power of transformation. God’s grace can take what seems too difficult to bear and transform it (or rather, our perspective of it) into something completely doable. Take something entirely overwhelming, add a dash of God’s grace, and suddenly it’s no big deal. But, God doesn’t give us just a dash of His grace. As the song says, “if grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.” He generously lavishes His grace upon us.
Something else about God’s grace: He lavishes it upon us just when we need it. “Don’t look for tomorrow’s grace today. The grace you need for tomorrow, God will give you…tomorrow.” (Pastor Gary Powell) Next time you begin to feel overwhelmed by life, wade into His ocean, and let the waves of His grace wash over you.
